FINSWIMMING

The Fastest Sport In The Water

Finswimming is a high-speed aquatic sport that combines the power of fin propulsion with the grace of underwater movement. Using specialized equipment like monofins, bifins, and snorkels, athletes race through the water with remarkable speed and efficiency—far surpassing traditional swimming techniques.

Governed by the CMAS (World Underwater Federation), finswimming includes both surface and underwater events in pools and open water. The sport features several disciplines:

Surface Swimming (SF): With a monofin and snorkel, athletes race at the surface.

Apnea (AP): A 50-meter underwater sprint without breathing.

Immersion (IM): Underwater racing with scuba gear.

Bi-Fins (BF): Surface swimming using two separate fins and a snorkel.

Whether sprinting in a pool or navigating open water, finswimmers demonstrate incredible strength, speed, and breath control. With world-class athletes reaching speeds of over 3 meters per second, finswimming is one of the fastest human-powered water sports in the world.

Drawn2Water is proud to be competing and coaching for the South Coast of NSW at both Regional and World Championship levels and recommends the sport to any persons of any age.

FinSwimming is a great complimentary activity to both Freediving and Snorkelling as it demands a level of commitment to training and fitness to improve.
